My Design Process:
Total Design Time: 10 Hours
- Inspiration: I looked up some different travel sites and took some screenshots of the elements I liked.
- Sketching Phase: I then worked with my inspiration to sketch the layouts for this project.
- Introduce Colors: I picked out a color palette to work with. (I wanted the website to exude security and adventure; therefore, I incorporated a lot of blues and pictures of destinations that users may associate with "adventure" ).
The image below on the left are the landing pages I created before it was reviewed by my mentor.
he wanted me to adjust some of the images, fonts and move the navigation bar to the bottom of the mobile pages to get a better feel of how the page was going to be navigated.
To the right is the finished product after I adjusted some of the mentioned aspects.
For the sketching phase, I try to keep everything quick and loose and try to get a feel for how I want the general layout to look like. If I am truly unsure, I will draw three different layouts/concepts and pick from there:
- I create a "grid" for each page I am making and label the columns by the name of the page.
- After drawing my concepts, I use a separate marker and circle the things I love most.
- After circling, I take a moment to process and I try to bring everything together into a cohesive design.
